Opus One 1984

Opus One 1984

Winery Notes:

Opus One 1984 is a wine of concentration and depth, a rich wine that is especially full and forthright.

97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc

94 Points Decanter

"This is a generously-structured, powerful wine, with a still beating heart and layers of liqourice-backed fruits that show their age through a subtle bricking around the edge of the glass, and gentle eucalyptus and forest floor notes. An early bud break and overall the shortest growing season on record, with ideal temperatures during the summer that saw cool mornings and warm afternoons that went right through harvest. 17 days skin contact"

Napa Valley’s AVA was established in 1983, and today there are 16 sub-appellations within the Napa Valley AVA. Many grapes grow well in Napa’s Mediterranean climate, but the region is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon. Chardonnay is also very successfully cultivated, and about 30% of the AVA’s acreage is planted to white grapes, with the majority of those grapes being Chardonnay,
